Night Porter

This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

We’re looking for a dedicated and reliable Night Porter to join our team at Paines Mill Foyer. In this role, you’ll help us continue delivering a safe, supportive environment for young people living at Paines Mill Foyer. You’ll be a reassuring presence throughout the night, ensuring the building is secure and our residents feel supported.


Salary: £22,932.00 per annum

Contract: Permanent

Your week: 35 hours per week

Shifts: Rolling rota – 4 nights on, 4 nights off: 9:45pm – 8:15am

Location: Paines Mill Foyer, St Neots

 

Snapshot of Your Role

  • Maintain the safety and security of the building through hourly checks and monitoring CCTV/security systems
  • Support young residents (aged 16 – 25) by responding to enquiries and ensuring their wellbeing overnight
  • Manage building access, logging visitors and customers in line with procedures
  • Carry out essential health and safety tasks, including fire alarm and emergency lighting checks
  • Respond to incidents, anti‑social behaviour and emergencies, escalating to the on‑call Service Manager when required
  • Keep accurate records, logs and incident reports to ensure smooth handover and audit readiness
  • Report repairs, maintain tidy office areas and ensure adequate supplies
  • Daily housekeeping and portering responsibilities
  • Work independently during night shifts while remaining aligned with the wider team’s goals and standards

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working professionally with vulnerable customer groups and understanding of appropriate boundaries
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety responsibilities in a workplace setting
  • Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to respond calmly and without judgement
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and able to maintain clear, accurate records
  • A team-focused attitude with the ability to work independently during lone-working shifts
  • Comfortable managing occasional challenging behaviour or stressful situations
  • Positive, approachable, and committed to supporting young people to thrive
